Here is an update on that heinous act of Isalmic Jew hatred - ATTACK ON JEWS: MUSLIMS OPEN FIRE IN COPENHAGEN, INJURE TWO (AP MAKES NO MENTION OF ISRAEL/"PALI" CONNECTION) We have to get the Jews out of Europe. Quickly...... Tundra Tabloids has the whole story here. KGS points out, "NOTE: It's also good to remember that only Muslim rage is expressed in the streets of the West, never Jewish rage, though the latter have been at the recieving end of Muslim aggression for centuries" H/T Henrik Clausen, who also did the entire ground work for the story. This is his vid and transcript. NOTE: The transcript, is below the video clip.
From Danish television DR1 January 1st 2009. English translation of the dialogue: And, as mentioned, the conflict had consequences here in Denmark, for it was likely politically motivated that a young man with Middle Eastern background yesterday [December 31st 2008] gunned down two Israelis in Rosengårdscentret in Odense, Denmark. Today [January 1st 2009] Rosengårdscenteret is empty, but yesterday this sales stand was the scene of a violent drama when an armed person suddenly shot and wounded two Israeli salesmen, then escaped in a black Audi. Today, the owner of the Audi turned himself to the police, and after an initial questioning, he was sent to a constitutional questioning, suspected of being the gunman from Rosengårdscentret. It is a man, residential here in Odense [possibly in the Vollsmose ghetto area], he is in his 20s', 27 years to be exact, a citizen of Denmark but of Middle East origin. The police refuses to relate if the man is Palestinian, or if the shooting is connected to the current conflict in the Gaza strip. We are of course aware of what happens around us in the world and in Denmark, but we have no clear motivate for the shooting. In the Vollsmose quarter of Odense, on the other hand, several are telling openly that the shooting yesterday is directly connected to the conflict in Gaza, and that the shooter indeed is Palestinean. "I know the man. I know him really well.""The man who shot, I know the person. The one who shot is Palestinean."From this it would seem that the conflict in Gaza has come to Denmark." He is one of the first in Denmark to show a really, really large, giant, giant, giant ... You should have seen yesterday, a great party we threw because of this. We really, really hope everyone will support him." "But, I can't explain what he's done in any way, I don't agree with what happened in any way either, but somehow I do understand what happened. One out of several million Palestineans has to react." In a statement, Danish Muslim Union sharply condemns the shootings Wednesday, and encourages citizens who feel powerless and frustrated over the sight of Israeli destruction and killing in Gaza to express their feelings in legal ways, such as demonstrations.
UPDATE: via Gates of Vienna and Steen's blog. A report from Danish TV2 Israeli victim of the Shooting in Denmark: "They wanted to kill us. I don't see any other reason. We are the only Jews and Israelis here. He shot me the first time in the leg, then the second shot was aimed at me, but my friend threw a chair at him; that's how he got his own shot in the hand, and he kept on shouting all over." The episode is the culmination of several months of harassment from a group of young Palestinians, says the Israeli owner of the stand where the two men worked. Among other things, the Israeli who was shot in the arm has been threatened with his life: "He says: 'You took my country, I will take your life'. And then he just went out. A bunch of people came shouting at us, yelling at us, cursing us, saying things in Arabic, saying thing like: "F**k Israel, kill the Jews." His brother denies there is a political motive behind it: "It's all lies. They know it. Everybody knows it. Everyone with a common sense can understand, that in the last few days during the thing in Gaza, if it's not political, then what is it ?"
The blog "This Ain't Hell" covered the DC rally today ..... ugly. Ugly people, ugly acts, ugly intent. John has the whole report here: ANSWER and the Muslim American Society were at it again today in DC, this time in front of the Israeli Embassy. Of, course, you know I couldn't resist going. Yep Brian Becker, the ANSWER national coordinator was there again calling for the arrest of George Bush and the rest of the criminals so they can answer for their "crimes". Lord knows what they'll do after January. It looks like they had a few hundred;
But it had the feel of a social event more than a protest;
They even had a self-hating Jew. Just one.
See the yellow flag? It's the Hezbollah flag - sweet crowd, huh?
There were two counter protesters. The little guy on your right was a Lithuanian Jew who had immigrated here in 1985.
When I went up the street to start filming the protest as it moved to the Egyptian Embassy, I kept an eye on that corner where the two counterprotesters were and I saw this guy in the white shirt hit the Lithuanian Jew;
So I scurried back down and it's all in this video; I got there just in time to see a cop pinning the guy in the white shirt to the pavement. So this guy and I are the only two who volunteered to be witnesses for him;
But I'm not hoping for much. The officer who interviewed us said that "these things never go to court". Yeah, not in DC they don't. It was assault, they took his statement, he has two witnesses, but that's enough to go to trial in DC. Wonder why? Me, too. We'll see if it makes the news tonight.
UPDATE: Meanwhile, up in Boston a terrific counter protest was staged! Solomonia has all. Apparently the enemy doesn't have its armies everywhere. Reader Laura went to the Pro-Hamas Rally in Springfield, Missouri. Here is the announcement on the ANSWER site: Springfield Friday, January 2 4:00 pm Gather at the corner of Glenstone and Battlefield Organized by the Peace Networks of the Ozarks
Atlas reader Laura and hubby Bob were there. Here's their reportage and photojournalism :) So we decided we were going to go counter protest and show our support for Israel at the scheduled Peace be upon Gaza in Springfield, MO at 4:00pm. Okay the Springfield, MO protest was scheduled at 4:00pm at Glenstone and Battlefield and they usually stand on the corner by Barnes and Noble-due to easy access to Starbucks, I'm sure. So we got there about 5:00pm because we had hour and half wait at the License Renewal office -of course did not plan for that, and traffic etc. Had my flag, check, camera, check, better half bob had the big video camera, ready to yell "Support Israel's right to defend herself---Yeah!!!!! Go Israel!!!!" Lot's of traffic before we reached the intersection of Battlefield and Glenstone--better half bob remarks,' there must be a a lot of protesters look at the traffic." (we don't don't get out much anymore) Well, we drove into Barnes and Noble Parking lot and there was no one there. crickets chirping........... I did see a suspicious brown stain on the grass. But ....no protesters. I guess they don't protest over an hour or no one showed up. So there is still hope for sanity and reason. Attached are my photographs of nothing happening-lol. Glad no one showed up b/c better half bob was fired up and ready to rumble-but hard to get passionate and and angry at the brown stain. but brown stain has higher IQ:) Best, Laura from the Ozarks
 Suspicious brown stain (or is that Cindy Shehag?)
There is a "suspicious fire" at a Jewish establishment in Helsingborg --it's every day now. Every day. Gates of Vienna just posted a translation of a brief article from "Sydsvenskan": Reinhard of FOMI has kindly translated a brief article about it from Sydsvenskan: Premises belonging to the Jewish congregation in Helsingborg were filled with smoke on Friday night. At around 8:30 p.m. there was a fire alarm. When the rescue services arrived at the locale on Springpostgränd in Helsingborg they put out a fire on one side of the building. According to the police who arrived at the scene, some object had been set on fire right outside the building.
The fire was promptly extinguished. Now the police are investigating how the fire began. "We suspect that it was arson," says Sofie Österheim at the police communications center in Skåne. No one was injured during the fire.
Previously at Atlas related: MUSLIMS CONTROL SWEDISH CITIES Straight from the horse's mouth. Unfettered, unedited, straight up. IDF Spokesman Blog: The IAF recently attacked the house of Muhammad Madhun, a terror operative responsible for firing rockets into Israel. Madhun's house was also used as a laboratory for the manufacturing of rockets and explosive devices and as a storage facility for rockets, mortar shells, and various weapons. The attack was carried out based on joint IDF and ISA intelligence information. In addition, the IAF struck the house of Imad Akel in Nuseirat. Akel is a senior Hamas terror operative and his house was used as a large storage facility for weapons. Akel is a leader of the Hamas terror organization and is a leader of the Hamas rocket (Grads and Qassams) and mortar efforts, in addition to being a weapons manufacturer. Large secondary explosions were seen following the attack due to the presence of large amounts of weaponry. The IAF has struck 35 in the Gaza Strip since this morning. Among the targets were the following: - Five tunnels in the Rafah border area.
- Three weapons storage facilities including a rocket lathe in Han Yunes.
- Five Hamas outposts.
- A number of rocket launchers including the specific launcher used to fire rockets into Ashkelon this morning.
- A number of launching sites.
- Over 30 rockets were fired into Israel and pounded both Ashkelon and the Western Negev. Over 500 rockets were fired into Israel over the last week.
64 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid were transferred into the Gaza Strip today. The IDF will continue operating against Hamas terror infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
Kansas City Muslims rally to support Hamas terrorists "Gaza is about the size of Greater Kansas City, both in land area and in population," according to the KC Tribune. And apparently there are a significant number of supporters of the terrorist group Hamas in greater Kansas City as well. The rally was sponsored by MAS-KC, a chapter of the Muslim American Society. KC has a longer history with Hamas than most of its residents might realize. Inside a Kansas City auditorium in 1989, a masked man stepped to a lectern and described in Arabic the "oceans of blood" spilled in Hamas' armed attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians. He thanked two nonprofit organizations for being early allies: the Islamic Association for Palestine, sponsor of the conference, and the Occupied Land Fund. Source From the Discover the Networks archive on MAS, whose KC chapter organized the Plaza rally: In May 2005, Daveed Gartenstein-Ross reported in The Weekly Standard that MAS is a U.S. front group for the Muslim Brotherhood — a claim supported by a September 19, 2004 Chicago Tribune story — and, as such, wishes to see the United States governed by sharia, or Islamic law. "The message that all countries should be ruled by Islamic law," writes Gartenstein-Ross, "is echoed throughout MAS's membership curriculum. For example, MAS requires all its adjunct members to read Fathi Yakun's book To Be a Muslim. In that volume, Yakun spells out his expansive agenda: 'Until the nations of the world have functionally Islamic governments, every individual who is careless or lazy in working for Islam is sinful.'" MAS's ties to the Muslim Brotherhood were confirmed on August 14, 2007, as The Investigative Project on Terrorism reported: "As the terror-support trial of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) continued today, FBI agent Lara Burns testified that a phonebook found at the home of Ismail Elbarrasse — un-indicted co-conspirator and former assistant to HAMAS leader Musa Abu Marzook — listed the names and numbers of the Muslim Brotherhood leadership in the United States. On the first page of the phonebook under the title 'Members of the Board of Directors' were fifteen names. Among those names are Ahmad Elkadi, Jamal Badawi, and Omar Soubani: the founding incorporators of the Muslim American Society (MAS)." It's worth repeating. How many protests did Muslim groups in America organize in the days and weeks after 9/11? That's right - you could count them on one hand even if your hand was blown off with one of Hamas' kassam rockets. Muslim Brotherhood led groups like CAIR and MAS have led dozens of protest in the last few days in support of terrorist group Hamas. Anyone getting the picture yet?

LOVE LETTER TO ISRAEL Paris 29 December 2008 Nidra Poller Count me in on the National Union, haverim! How can I tell you merci, thank you, grazie, toda rabah and bravo for your courage and double bravo for your finesse. Where else do you see an army combine heavy duty military action with the delicate handcraft of the finest jewelers? Truth is, we have more experience in making jewelry than in making war. And that's part of my wondrous admiration. This meteoric rise to proficiency in sixty years of sovereignty. Less than a lifetime! While these wimpy Europeans who are scolding you for smashing Hamas have so many centuries of war under their belts and no stomach for facing up to tyrants. Ceasefire, they squeak, like decrepit old codgers sitting on the porch of a rest home. Ceasefire, whoever you are, whatever you're doing, just stop it! Some of us here in the Diaspora—I should say the galut, n'est-ce pas?—grow impatient when we see you hunker down instead of hitting back while Hamas uses you as a dart board for Qassams and the Iranian godfather trumpets his intention to exterminate you…and us. We don't always understand your exquisite concern for the civilians who vote these Jew-killers into power. "Can't you see," we admonish you, "you're playing into their game. They all run together when it's a question of hounding Jews to death, but as soon as you lift a hand, poof!, they are innocent civilians who shouldn't be punished for voting for Hamas." Here, from a safe distance, we give you marching orders. Smash Hamas, Crush Hizbullah, Take out the mullah's nuclear sites. Other voices, equally determined, command you to make concessions, make peace, make nice, make the UN approve us and our enemies love us and, above all, don't make waves. We meddle in your elections, own and disown you according to changing fashion. Some of our young people wave your flag, too many of our high profile commentators drag you through the mud, and we all—whether or not we admit it—huddle under your sheltering wing. Now, suddenly, you strike like the outstretched hand. It's so clean. So intelligent. So beautifully coordinated. The art of war! Only last week Hamas was publicly gloating: hee hee, we ended the truce and Israel doesn't know what to do about it. Hamasniks were strutting around in uniform, laying on sharia with increasing brutality, drooling over the coming destruction of Israel and suddenly, pam! Divine retribution stomps the villains in one fell swoop and my Jewish heart swells with pride. This is the difference, this is the "never again." We do not count on easy tears over the victims of the Shoah, we count on Israel. You are brave, and tough, and lucid. You strike with precision because your minds are not clouded with hatred. This is the secret of Jewish survival through centuries of persecution. It's the secret of Israel's survival, a pearl in an ocean of hostile Muslim nations: you are not consumed with hatred. European leaders prattle while Islamic fire licks at their feet. They still hold the reigns of power domestically (nominally?), still pretend to count for something internationally, and have no shame in mouthing platitudes about restraint, end to violence, political solutions, and disproportionate force. Hasbara-wise, what can you say to these people? The best statement is the action. Voilà. We did it. We folded our air force into a mighty fist and destroyed Hamas's evil toys with one-two-three quick clean blows.
How can you explain-- to the morally tone deaf-- the whys and wherefores of this operation? An in-your-face mirror would be the best tool. Look here, monsieur European Union, see yourself in the act of defending Hamas. Hamas, not helpless civilians, not innocent peace partners, Hamas that vows to destroy Israel and kill all the Jews worldwide. Hamas, buddy-buddy with Iran. Iran and Hamas that want to kill you too, unless you submit to sharia law and worship their prophet. Sharia law that Hamas imposed in Gaza. Imposed on those innocent civilians you claim to cherish and protect. Amputation, beheadings and, or so it seems, crucifixion are among the refined punishments recently established by Hamas. Yes, refined, because when Hamas forces took over the Gaza strip in the summer of 2007, they threw Fatah members from tall buildings. When Hamas strikes its Fatah rivals in Gaza, they run to Israel as if she were their ima. Hold a mirror to the scolder's eyes, that they might behold their scale of values. And then shower them with press clippings. Only a month ago, in Mumbai, jihadis executed close to 200 civilians. Some were mowed down like sitting ducks. Some were carefully picked out, tormented, tortured, killed, and mutilated. The worst treatment of all was reserved for Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, his wife Rivka, and other Jews in the Chabad center. Is that what you want for all of us, monsieur and madame hand-wringer? You want us to be helpless victims of crazed jihadis who break down the door, hold us at their mercy, subject us to atrocious torture and death? Show me one iota of difference between the Mumbai jihadis and the Gaza jihadis…and the jihadis who will come for you one day. Unless we stop them now. The French can't find a sensible translation for "cast lead." Don't think any of their knowing journalists would even try to tell us what it means. I learned from Steve Plaut that oferet yitzuka comes from a Hanukah song (one I've never heard): "Daddy bring me a little Hanuka menorah in cast lead." It signifies, says Steve, Israeli unity in this fight against Hamas. After fiddling around with melted lead and molten lead, French-speakers—including the Israeli embassy here—have opted for hardened lead (plombe durci). No way a kid would ask daddy for a hanukiah in hardened lead. The French term for cast metal is trempé. And that does make sense. Plombe trempé is strong, durable, tough. § § § December 30: reality comes pouring in on all sides. First, forgive my initial naïve enthusiasm. I don't take back the pride, but I recognize that oferet yitzuka has just begun. The troops massed on the border will, we hope--but wish they didn't have to—move in and do what can only be done on the ground. Young men and women who would like to be celebrating the civil New Year like their counterparts in Europe and the U.S. will face firebombs instead of popping champagne corks. They are putting their young lives in danger. Every casualty breaks my heart. But for Europeans there will never be enough Israeli casualties. Well-balanced body count--that's their concept of just war. They applied it in 2000 and they have already set it in motion for this round of war without end (but they don't know who is causing it, who is fighting it for them, and how it will end if someone doesn't fight back). Think tanker Antoine Basbous, director of l'Observatoire du Monde Arabe (Arab-world Watch) called in on 27 December by the state-owned France 3 TV channel to give his expert viewpoint was asked what he thought about Condoleeza Rice's condemnation of…Hamas for persistently attacking Israel. Basbous blurted out: "That's ridiculous! Only one Israeli was killed!" He went on to explain that after dozens of Israelis were killed, maybe perhaps there would be good reason to point a finger at Hamas. Given that, in his opinion, European nations could have no influence on the conflict as long as the Americans continued to coddle Israel, he concluded with high hopes that Obama would soon step in and repair America's battered image in the Arab world. The next day, France 3, which is the most anti-Zionist, anti-American, anti-Sarkozy of all the state-owned channels, laid it on thick and heavy. No lie was too blatant as long as it battered Israel's image in the Eurabian world. Half the casualties, declared a France 3 journalist, lying through her teeth, are civilians. Egypt wants to help the wounded, she whined, but Israel won't let them cross the border. Massive demonstrations in Arab countries, by Arabs in Israel, she announced with joy, adding in a thousand (Arab?) protestors in Paris. No longer stunned and dazed, the surviving Hamasniks are busy grinding out Pallywood images. The husky men in uniform writhing in death throes have been pulled off the stage. It's all civilians now, preferably women and children. Even when news reports are truthful about the death toll, they still choose images of dead children and wailing mothers. PLO spokeswomen ride the airwaves, weaving the lethal narrative of Palestinian suffering. Nothing to eat, nothing to drink (and no one asks how come they have so many rockets) no work, no exit. All they want is a state of their own, to live in peace and prosperity. By December 29th all traces of Israel's carefully prepared explanations has disappeared from French media. Years of rocket attacks, unilateral withdrawal, months of patience, the truce, the breaking of the truce…none of this exists anymore. Feeble attempt at balanced reporting backfire. Israeli victims can't compete with the massacre of the innocent in Gaza. Sderot, Netivot, gutted homes, pierced hearts of Israeli victims have no visual impact. The sun is shining, the homes are neat and clean, the health personnel are bright and fresh, it all looks so lovely compared to the dusty grey ruins of Gaza where dozens of hysterical men and boys drag the wounded like sacks of potatoes and dump them in dirty hospital corridors. It is all the fault of Israel in our media today. Hamas has been washed clean in its own blood. Hamas has no charter vowing to destroy Israel, no brutal police force, no Taliban style oppression, and no launching pads. The rockets fall into Israel like snowflakes. Gaza is innocence personified. French commentators are on automatic pilot now. Nothing will stop them. They only have eyes for anti-Israel demonstrations, their microphones only reach as far as the mouths of those who condemn us. Newscasters cheerfully announce demonstrations organized by the Muslim Brotherhood as if the Brotherhood were a branch of Virgin Megastore. Forget about the hasbara. These people who claim to love Muslims couldn't care less if they die in idiotic martyrdom or rot in stupid tyrannies. These Europeans, who think they are so smart, can't be bothered to look into the subtleties of the Arab world, to notice that Egypt and Saudi Arabia, for example, are chuckling under their flowing robes at the sight of Hamas getting its nose bloodied. Not to mention Mahmoud Abbas, chortling like Santa Claus while the elves do all the heavy lifting. Cast Lead is more revealing than crystal clear glass. Behold the champions of human rights, trashing Tsahal and covering for Hamas. Don't explain anything to them; ask them to explain why they want Jews to die like Chabadniks in Mumbai instead of living like free men and women? Ask them why they themselves want to die like Jews in Mumbai instead of defending their crippled democracies? And please, haverim, don't back down. Go jusqu'au bout. We are with you, we'll defend you on the home front while you defend us on the battlefield. Just don't back down, don't hold your fire, don't listen to the sirens of hypocritical peacemakers. And watch out, because our enemies are surely preparing a Kfar Qana. Don't flinch when they parade the second-hand dead babies. Your greatest gift to the fight against global jihad lies in NOT explaining why this operation is justified. As for their jingle about ceasefire and international peacekeepers, it's not a bad idea…AFTER the war is over. I would suggest that this time, instead of sending in UN or NATO troops, they post French journalists all up and down the Gaza Strip. The contingent stationed near the border with Israel, to keep an eye on the rusting rocket launchers, just in case, should be reserved exclusively for France 3 personnel. Women only. I'm waiting for their reports, when the last straggling heroes of Hamas make a demonstration of Muslim brotherhood.
Undhimmi in the comment section, responded to my query, "where the hell is the trembling media"? I'll tell you where the hell the trembling media is - shilling for the 'victims', along with the disgraceful UN.
"What is amazing is that within any 2 week period or so - the Taliban and other Muslims kill at least 300 people - doing their shopping - although they are all Muslim - we hear nothing from the Muslim community in the West - or in major Islamic cities like Egypt - Just as with Sudan where 250,000 Muslims have died under the hands of other Muslims." (comment on my Fort Lauderdale jihad rally video) Here is proof -- the most stunning indictment of the leftist Islamic alliance hijacking the Democrat party, the media, the (anti)-intelligentsia. Any Jew that calls himself a Democrat and votes that ticket is a kapo. A KAPO! Obama will be taking cues from polls like this - his deafening silence on Israel's self defense, at this point, is stunning. It bodes most ill. Most Democrats oppose Israeli offensive on Gaza; 62% Republicans support it (poll) Sixty-two percent (62%) of Republicans back Israel's decision to take military action against the Palestinians, but only half as many Democrats (31%) agree. A majority of Democrats (55%) say Israel should have tried to find a diplomatic solution first, a view shared by just 27% of Republicans. Rasmussen poll. Shame on leftwing Jews. Fifty-five percent (55%) of adults, however, believe the Palestinians are to blame for the current situation in Gaza, while 13% point the finger at the Israelis. Nearly one-third (32%) aren't sure.
CAN THE 32% READ? Or is the leftist public school system keeping them deliberately stoopid. Men are far more sympathetic to the Israelis than women. Fifty-six percent (56%) of men support Israel's military action, compared to 34% of women. Whites narrowly give the edge to military action, but African-Americans by three-to-one say diplomacy was the better way to go. Proof women can't think. See verdicts of the OJ jury and the Menendez jury. Sixty-seven percent (67%) of those who say they are following news out of Gaza Very Closely support Israel's military action, while 30% favor diplomacy. While the Bush administration is viewed as a solid ally of Israel, the new findings signal a possible shift in Washington's support for Tel Aviv under President Obama. Just after the election, 47% of voters said Obama will do a good or excellent job handling national security issues. Thirty-four percent (34%) expected him to handle those issues poorly. Sixty-two percent (62%) of Republicans back Israel's decision to take military action against the Palestinians, but only half as many Democrats (31%) agree. A majority of Democrats (55%) say Israel should have tried to find a diplomatic solution first, a view shared by just 27% of Republicans. While 75% of Republicans say Israel is an ally of the United States, just 55% of Democrats agree. Seven percent (7%) of Democrats say Israel is an enemy of America, but only one percent (1%) of Republicans say the same. For 21% of Republicans, Israel is somewhere in between, and 28% of Democrats agree. UPDATE: RJC Responds to Poll Showing Sharp Division Between Democrats and Republicans on Gaza Action Majority of Democrats oppose Israeli self-defense actions in Gaza; Nearly two-thirds of Republicans support it. Washington, D.C. (January 2, 2009) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) released a statement today in response to a Rasmussen poll of American opinions of the Israel-Hamas conflict, which showed a majority of Democrats opposed to Israel's defensive actions in Gaza while nearly two-thirds of Republicans supported Israel's actions. RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said: The latest Rasmussen poll (conducted December 30, 2008*) highlights the continuing deep division between rank-and-file Democrats and Republicans regarding support for Israel's right to defend herself. As Israel takes military action to defend herself from the continuous assault of rockets and mortars coming from Hamas-controlled Gaza, that divide is especially note-worthy. The Rasmussen poll shows that there is a huge split between Democrats and Republicans on whether Israel should have undertaken the current military action against Hamas. Democrats opposed the Israeli action 31%-55% and Republicans supported Israel's course of action 62%-27%. This is not an isolated instance. We saw a similar split between Democrats and Republicans when Israel fought Hezbollah forces in Lebanon in the summer of 2006. An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll in late July 2006 showed that among Republicans, an overwhelming 84% said they sympathized more with Israel (1% sympathized more with Arab states); by comparison, just 43% of Democrats did so (12% sympathize more with Arab states). In a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll at the very end of July, when asked whether the U.S. should be more neutral in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah or whether the U.S. should align itself with Israel, Democrats supported neutrality over alignment, 54% to 39%. However, by comparison, Republicans strongly supported alignment with the Jewish state, 64% to 29%. While we are pleased that many Democratic congressional leaders have offered their unqualified support of Israel, the fact that an overwhelming majority of Democrats at the grassroots level oppose Israel's self-defensive action is troubling and a cause for concern in the Jewish community. We hope that going forward, pro-Israel Democratic congressional leaders and advocacy groups such as the National Jewish Democratic Council will redouble their efforts to educate grassroots Democrats and build greater support for Israel's right of self-defense.
LIVEBLOGGING ISRAEL Trafalgar sat in on a conference call with the Israeli embassy. Here is the latest from the tiny besieged nation of Israel. UPDATE FROM ISRAELI EMBASSY This afternoon, 200 leaders of the Conservative movement were briefed on the war in Israel via conference call by Minister-Counselor Rafael Harpaz, Director of Public Affairs for the Embassy of Israel. Here is a quick summary: He began by saying that as we speak, Israelis are sitting down for Shabbas dinner in their bomb shelters. Our hearts and prayers are with them. The media is not reporting the larger context of the war. 1. The war did not start last Saturday. It dates back to August 2005, when Israel made the heartbreaking decision to disengage from Gaze in hopes of peace. Instead, it got war. 2. 6,500 rockets have fallen on Israel since disengagement. No other country in the world faces this kind of bombardment. 3. In spite of this constant assault, Israel decided to go through a peace process with moderate Palestinians and give it one more chance. It got nowhere. 4. It was Hamas's decision to go to war against Israel. In their own words, they broke the so-called "truce" and declared war. He stressed: 1. Israel is not at war with the Palestinian people. It is at war with Hamas and Hamas's infrastructure. 2. Israel is taking extraordinary precautions to avoid hurting civilians. It is dropping leaflets warning neighbors of Hamas leaders to leave their homes, and also making thousands of phone calls to civilians telling them when to leave to avoid being hit. No other country conducts war this way. 3. Israel has allowed 8,000 tons of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, with food, medical supplies, fuel, etc. Consequently, there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza, despite what the media might report. 4. The Palestinians use human shields, planting weapons in mosques, schools and civilian neighborhoods. 5. There is no moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas. We value human life and Hamas harms its own people, placing them directly in harm's way, deliberately. 6. The U.S. has shown overwhelming bipartisan support for Israel, from Senators, Congressman, Governors, Mayors, and across every segment of society. But this support has not been reported much in the press. 7. Pro-Palestinian rallies are dominating the news. Even small demonstrations of 50 - 60 guys make the news and they are having demonstrations every day. The pro-Israel rallies are not as visible. UPDATE ON 3 MAJOR GOALS OF WAR 1. A major goal is to damage Hamas's infrastructure. They have made significant progress on that, including damaging its ability to smuggle weapons. 2. Another goal is to decrease Hamas's missile launchin g capability. They still have a way to go on that. 3. The third goal is to create a durable and sustainable reality of quiet on the ground. As for that, we'll have to see. Mr. Harpaz said that we can all help by using new media such as twitter and youtube, as well as writing letters to our local papers, to spread the word. Many videos are available showing Israel opening the border for aid to get through and Israel's careful targeting of military targets. To Israel I say, it is not enough to disarm Hamas, they must be destroyed or they will destroy you. WMD is right around the bend. This is not a religion .............no sir. Weapons in Gaza Mosque Struck by Israel Air Force 1 Jan. 2009 Add that to this ....... IAF VIDEO : attack on mosque full of rockets. 12-31-08 Where the hell is the trembling media? Damn them. UPDAYE John Jay, Atlas historian, enlightens us on mosque as cavalry fort .... ...if you go to website devoted to arabic/islamic architecture, and dig deep enough, you will find sections dealing with the history of the mosque as a structure. you will find that the mosque functions much as a cavalry fort in the old west, e.g., like "fort apache." the mosque's architecture envisioned the mosque as a trading post, an educational center (mosques have madrassas, and madrassas have mosques), and, it is directly envisioned that should islam either be on the defense from attack or attacking others, the mosque is to serve as a fort. the mosque has an outer fence, an inner courtyard, e.g., for trade and trade festivals, and for the training and marshalling of troupes. for israel to strike a mosque is nothing more than israel recognizing that which islam openly admits, the mosque is a military entity just as any other military base. it is absolutely no surprise that a mosque should have weapons stored in it, ... , that was the model and the common happenstance in iraq, and it will be the case wherever islam is found, and has established mosques. it was a model which served islam well for 1400 years. old habits die hard. good to see some mosques being hit, and each and every one in gaza should be.
